The Food Marketing Institute and National Retail Federation announced Wednesday they would combine their separate risk and safety events into a single conference starting in 2018.
Both existing events focus on loss prevention, retail crime and risk management. Instead of holding its own event, FMI will partner with NRF on the latter's PROTECT conference in Dallas in 2018.
"Respecting the changing grocery landscape and the intense consolidation our industry has witnessed over the last several years, our trade groups are making similar strategic decisions to maximize efficiencies and deliver greater value to the audiences we serve," FMI CEO Leslie Sarasin said.
The announcement of the merger was made at FMI's Audit, Safety and Asset Protection Conference, held this week in Orlando. NRF CEO Matthew Shay said his group is "enthusiastic to amplify the sphere of influence of this gathering and ultimately help deliver the resources and information necessary to safeguard, prepare, protect and defend the nation's commerce streams." http://bit.ly/2nRXZqR
